Welcome to LuxeBrideGuide, where I share bridal inspo for the luxe bride-to-be.

So Overrated...

So Overrated...

Hi everyone!

Hope your August is off to a great start. I’m not really sure how it’s already August, but here we are.

Today I’m coming at you with some controversy. I’m talking about things that are SO OVERRATED when it comes to weddings. Disclaimer as always: if you genuinely love one of these things, you do you. I want your wedding to be what you always dreamed of. So yes, do that doughnut wall and be darn proud of it.

  1. Blush bridesmaids gowns.

I’m so sorry, but many people do not look good in blush. It can make you look super washed out. Jewel tones look good on everyone, and I mean EVERYONE. Pastels are just harder to deal with.

  2. Having your hairstylist change your hairstyle for the reception.

I too once thought that having multiple looks would be so cool. However, do you realllllllyyyyy want to take time out of your day that already goes at lightning speed in order to change your hairstyle (which no one probably would care about anyway)? Let’s face it, if you had a great time on your big day, your curls will probably fall a little (or a lot), you’ll be sweaty, and you’ll be in wedding bliss. After the photos who even cares?

  3. Having two gowns.

I know you’re probably stabbing a voodoo doll of me right now. (While you’re at it, at least be kind and rip the stuffing out of the stomach part. Thanks.) While I also once thought that two looks would be awesome, I think that if you truly love your dress you wouldn’t want to change it. I plan on putting up with my giant skirt and whatever discomfort it may cause because DARN IT THIS DAY ONLY HAPPENS ONCE. Now if you have a detachable skirt, go for it. I feel like that is much more reasonable. And if you’re having an after-party and want to throw on something else, totally fine. I just think that an hour or two in your wedding dress is just too little.

  4. Ice sculptures.

I really don’t understand the novelty, but I understand some venues give them to you in your package, so I guess pick something cool. Or be kind of cheeky and ask them to carve it to look like the rapper Ice Cube. Please send photos if you do this.

  5. Bands

No one sings Pitbull like Pitbull. Case closed.

  6. Rules

Does your mom want to wear the same color as your bridesmaids? Cool. Don’t want to carry a bouquet? Cool. Does your mom want to wear pants? Cool. No bridal party? Also cool. Like honestly I don’t know who made up some of these crazy rules but people need to just do whatever they want. I’m tired of hearing people be like, “Well my bridesmaids are wearing black but then my guests will wear black so idk maybe I’ll pick something else.” Like I’m pretty sure once they walk up the aisle everyone will know who they are. CHILL OUT. #sorryforthesass

That’s all for now. As you can tell I get spicy about these things because I hate when people feel like they have to do what everyone else is doing. If you love a trend, go for it, but don’t feel like if you don’t do it your wedding is going to be terrible and not cool. Have a wedding that is uniquely you. Usually that is the best and most memorable way to do things.

Peace and blessings.
